2 Evening Wax Carving Jewellery Workshop with Aimee Winstone at Winterbourne Medieval Barn

Come and join Aimee at Winterbourne Medieval Barn for a relaxed creative 2 evenings of jewellery making. In the two sessions, you’ll learn how to carve a block of wax into your chosen design and create a piece of silver jewellery in the company of lovely creatives, amateur makers and keens crafters just like you.

The 2 Evening Wax Carving Workshop is a short introduction to wax carving and jewellery making, suitable for crafters of all abilities, from absolute beginners to those with some knowledge of silversmithing, everyone will leave with a piece you’ll be proud to wear. If you have any questions or want to make sure this is the creative session for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch by sending an email or DM.
This workshop will not include the use of any stones or stone mounting.

This workshop will run between 6.30-9.

Materials
The price of this workshop includes the use of all tools and wax. Silver will be charged at £3 a gram so that you can create your own stunning one-of-a-kind ring or pendant. As a guide, a very heavy silver ring could weigh 18 grams. Your wax will be weighed and a cost will be calculated at the end of the first session.

You’ll take home your original creation, plus worksheets allowing you to continue your new hobby in the comfort of your own home with the knowledge of how to create more pieces with a basic toolkit.

Agenda
2 Evening Wax Carving Jewellery Workshop is a relaxed and informal session where we’ll cover:

On the first session
A short introduction and demonstration of possible techniques
Design time with a discussion of possible techniques to use
Carving 1 piece of jewellery
Learn how to calculate the weight and cost of your silver castings. As a guide, a very heavy silver ring could weigh 18 grams. Your wax will be weighed and a cost will be calculated at the end of the first session.

On the second session
Demonstrations of filing, buffing, soldering, polishing and oxidising as needed
Discussing your piece and the processes you will need to complete and in what order
Completing your piece of jewellery using all or some of the techniques above based on your design
Take away your own finished piece of unique handmade jewellery, made by you

Unfortunately, this workshop does not include the lost wax casting process.

Refreshments
You can enjoy a small selection of teas, coffee and cold drinks during the workshop. I will also have biscuits or snacks to treat ourselves with.

Aimee Winstone is a jeweller based in Bristol. Outside of running expert jewellery making workshops, you’ll find Aimee in her studio creating original designs running her successful business making commission based fine jewellery in silver gold and platinum.

About Winterbourne Medieval Barn
Winterbourne Medieval Barn is a lovely rural site located minutes from M4 junctions M32, Bristol. This creative venue supports 4 craftspeople.

Accessibility
Winterbourne Medieval Barn is a mostly a step free venue with disabled toilets, there are some uneven surfaces and more access information can be found on their website.

Transport
Car: Winterbourne Medieval Barn is located close to the M4/M32 junctions as well as the Bristol Ring Road. There is plenty of free parking on site. When using a sat nav enter the postcode BS36 1SE.
Cycling: There is a bank of cycle racks in the car park if you wish to cycle.
Buses:

The Y3 or Y4 running between Bristol and Yate stop at the George & the Dragon and Winterbourne Post Office respectively. Both routes stop at the Co-Op in the opposite direction. The Barn is then a 13 minute walk down either down Beacon or Church Lane.
Y6 running between Southmead and Chipping Sodbury stops at Bradley Bridge which is a 7 minute walk along Church Lane to the Barn.

Cancellations & Refunds
We reserve the right to cancel or postpone this workshop. In cases of unforeseeable circumstances like extreme weather, we will give as much notice as possible. If the event is cancelled or postponed due to low ticket sales, we will give a minimum of 2 days notice.

In either case, anyone who was purchased will be offered a full refund and/or a ticket to a future event.

Refunds can only be offered with a minimum of 14 days notice.
