Keil's Engagement Ring Story

He Wanted a One-of-a-Kind Ring — So He Made It Himself

Some engagement rings are bought.
Some are designed.
And then, very occasionally, one is made, quietly, thoughtfully, and with extraordinary intention.

When Keil contacted me about making his own engagement ring, he already knew one thing for certain: he wanted the proposal to be a complete surprise.

Not just the ring, but the process too.

A Secret Plan (and Very Discreet Cameras)

Keil was clear from the start that any photos or videos taken during his workshop day couldn’t make it obvious what he was doing. His plan was beautifully simple and incredibly romantic: during the proposal, he would show his partner the footage and ask her:

“What do you think I’ve been up to?”

Only then would she realise he had spent the day handmaking her engagement ring in secret, learning new skills, shaping the ring, and creating something completely unique just for her.

The film below shows moments from that day: the concentration, the care, and the transformation from raw materials to a finished ring. No jewellery-making experience. No DIY background. Just intention, effort, and love.

Watch the journey below.

Designing the Ring

Keil had an office-based job and no previous jewellery-making or DIY experience whatsoever. No tools, no soldering, no setting stones, nothing.

What he did have was a very clear vision.

Together, we designed a platinum engagement ring featuring:

  • A 2.11ct D VVS1 lab-grown elongated radiant cut diamond

  • A handmade claw setting

  • A cathedral-style band

  • A beautiful graduation of stones along the shoulders, moving from
white diamonds → pale sapphires → vivid blue sapphires

Every decision was made with his partner in mind, her style, her taste, and how the ring would feel on her hand. My role was to guide, demonstrate, and support, his role was to make it real.

Making the Ring, With No Experience at All

This is the part where most people reading think:
“That sounds incredible… but I could never do that.”

Keil thought exactly the same.

The engagement ring workshop is designed for people with no jewellery-making experience. Everything is broken down into manageable steps, with constant guidance and reassurance. You don’t need to be “hands-on”, creative, or confident with tools, you just need to care.

And Keil cared deeply.

He spent the day carefully forming the setting, shaping the band, and watching the ring slowly come to life in his hands. There’s something incredibly powerful about seeing someone who’s never picked up a jeweller’s file before create something so precise, personal, and meaningful.

More Than a Ring, A Memory for Life

He wanted a one of a kind engagement ring, so he made it himself

Yes, the finished ring was stunning.
Yes, it was completely one of a kind.

But what mattered most was how it was made.

Keil didn’t just give his partner an engagement ring, he gave her:

  • A story

  • A surprise

  • A day of effort, bravery, and love

  • A memory they will talk about forever

How much further can you really go to create the perfect ring?

He wanted a one-of-a-kind engagement ring, so he made it himself.

Thinking About Making Your Own Engagement Ring?

If you’re reading this and thinking “I’d love to do something like this, but I have no experience”, you are exactly who these workshops are for.

You don’t need skills.
You don’t need confidence.
You just need an idea, and a willingness to try.

If you’d like to start a relaxed, no-pressure conversation about ideas and possibilities, you can get in touch with me via the contact page. We’ll talk through your thoughts, your partner’s style, and how we can create something truly unforgettable, both the ring and the experience.
